Off-season arm-pump surgery left Wilson Todd ‘underprepared’ in the early rounds of Penrite ProMX 2026, still managing the effects of what has been deemed an unsuccessful procedure for the MX1 title prospect.

After winning the final round at Queensland Moto Park (QMP) last year, expectations were high for the four-time MX2 champion this season, but a P6 result at Wonthaggi followed by an improved fourth in Canberra has fallen short of his anticipated form.

Todd has since revealed that he underwent corrective arm-pump surgery in December – marking the second time he has been searching for answers – however, the outcome has not delivered the expected results.

“[I] just got a little bit more time on the bike [between rounds], to get a bit fitter,” Todd told MotoOnline after round two. “I was definitely underprepared going into the first one – still underprepared now, but happier than where I was.

“I got arm-pump surgery in December, but then it came back worse than ever. At Wonthaggi, I couldn’t even wrap my fingers around the grips… I was riding, just gripping with my thumbs. I got [the surgery] once before in Europe, which was awesome for a year – it fixed me.

“I got it again this year and the doctor, when he opened me up, he said I had like so much scarring around my muscles from the first time, so he tried to bust it all up, but yeah, even right now, you can feel all the scarring that’s developed around all my muscles again.”

The 28-year-old added that there are measures he can take to improve the feeling, although they are more of a band-aid solution at this stage rather than a guaranteed fix. It’s a troubling position to be in with six rounds still remaining.

“You can’t really [fix it],” he continued. “There are some things that I can do that I don’t really want to share – a few secret things, but even that, it’s not a fix, it’s just a band-aid over a wound. It was definitely better today – I wouldn’t say I’m 100 percent – and way, way, way better than Wonthaggi.”

Todd recorded 5-4 moto finishes on his way to P4 overall at Canberra in technical conditions on Sunday, and is currently ranked sixth in the MX1 championship standings entering Gillman’s third round on May 10.
