Elusive MX1 win 'not off the table' for Crawford

Second overall at Canberra’s Penrite ProMX round on Sunday was an encouraging step for KTM Racing Team’s Nathan Crawford, not ruling out an elusive first-career MX1 victory as the series heads into its closing stages in his home state of Queensland.

After finishing third on three-consecutive occasions leading into round six, Crawford was intent on snapping the streak with a higher aim after a promising previous round in Warwick, which saw a P2 moto finish in the opening encounter.

That form would continue for the 27-year-old at the Fairbairn Park Motorsport Complex, where a standout performance resulted in laps led, as well as a 2-3 moto scorecard for second on the podium in between Jed Beaton (Monster Energy CDR Yamaha) and Wilson Todd (Berry Sweet Honda Racing).

“It was a pretty good day in Canberra,” Crawford told MotoOnline post-race. “Two good starts in the motos, and I have been really enjoying getting to the front in the races even though it hasn’t been for a heap of laps. Just having that early race intensity has been really good.

“I’ve been occupying the third step on the podium most of the year, so I was stoked to get to second. I had the exact same results as I did in Warwick, but I really want to get a win – I feel like I’m in a position now to win.”

With the series heading back to Queensland for the final two rounds, beginning with Toowoomba on July 27 and Queensland Moto Park (QMP) on August 2-3, he’s expressed that a breakout victory is ‘not off the table’ before the season’s out.

“I love Toowoomba, and with the way my starts have been, and how hard it is to pass around QMP, [a win] is not off the table yet,” he added. “I’m trying to get this elusive MX1 win, I’m yet to get one.”
