Motorcycling Australia (MA) is exploring options to outsource its flagship national championship properties – ProMX, Enduro and ASBK – to independent promoters within the next five years, or potentially sooner, it has been revealed.

Speculation has intensified in recent weeks that the governing body is moving to offload promotion of the three domestic championships, with MA CEO Peter Doyle confirming that the newfound direction is under discussion.

MA has directly overseen the Australian Enduro Championship – formerly the Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) – since 2010, before taking full promotional control from 2016. Likewise, ASBK has been operated in-house since MA stepped in during the 2014 season when the series underwent a significant rebuild, following a lengthy period of instability.

ProMX, meanwhile, was later introduced in 2021 after MA took charge of the Australian Motocross Championship following longtime organiser Williams Event Management’s decision to exit the ‘MX Nationals’ during the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing the trio of premier disciplines under a unified in-house model.

However, with MA now responsible for more than 20 national championship events annually across multiple categories, sources suggest that operational demands and commercial returns have prompted a reassessment of the current structure under the direction of Doyle and the MA board. No formal tender process has been issued, despite informal discussions in the background.

While MA is regarded for its capabilities in event delivery and governance, the organisation has faced challenges in achieving the commercial performance and marketing reach of dedicated private promoters such as AME Group, which currently holds the rights to the Australian Supercross Championship under its AUSX brand.

In parallel, other domestic racing properties have continued to develop under independent leadership, with the Australian Flat Track Nationals (AFTN) growing under Dave Maddock’s management through Rise Activation, and MotoMini Australia – led by multiple-time ASBK champion Wayne Maxwell – establishing itself as a recognised FIM-affiliated feeder series.

It’s understood that MA’s initial intent is to transition ProMX, Enduro and ASBK into independent promotional hands within the coming five seasons, although ProMX is believed to be the immediate priority and could be the first to move, potentially as early as the 2027 or 2028 seasons if a suitable partner can be secured in the short term.
