A replacement rider in MX1 hasn’t been ruled out by KTM Racing Team following its recent split with Nathan Crawford, ideally as part of an ongoing arrangement that would span through the Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross Championship later in the year.

After mutually parting ways with last year’s ProMX runner-up Crawford just one round into the new season, KTM could continue with a four-rider factory roster this season – inclusive of Zac Watson on the 450 SX-F, alongside MX2 standouts Byron Dennis and Dylan Walsh.

“Our plan moving forward remains unchanged,” KTM Australia motorsport manager Kyle Blunden told MotoOnline. “As a team, we’ll continue to put our best foot forward wherever possible.

“We’ve got three very capable riders across MX1 and MX2, all at different stages of their careers, which gives us a strong and balanced program. In MX3, we’re also very focused on ensuring Jackson Fuller has a successful season – he’s a very talented young rider and an important part of our structure.”

With Crawford already departed – expected to be Honda-mounted in a satellite deal when the outdoor series resumes in Canberra this weekend – planning is ongoing surrounding the longer-term strategy of KTM Racing Team’s 450 class operations.

According to Blunden, signing an additional rider would be best placed if they can continue into the AUSX series, and that is under consideration at this time: “In terms of the 450 class, there are some discussions happening in the background, but it needs to be the right fit from both sides.

“Ideally, any move there would align with a broader supercross plan later in the year, so there’s an opportunity to build momentum and get some races under the belt with the team beforehand. Nothing is set in stone at this stage. We’re excited to be going racing in Canberra and staying focused on the job at hand this weekend.”
