Multiple fractures sustained by former champion in first-turn fall.
Four-time national MX1 champion Dean Ferris has outlined the extent of his injuries sustained in a violent first-turn crash at Toowoomba, impacting his return to ProMX competition with Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki.
The 35-year-old has returned to full-time professional racing in 2026, but has been vocal following a multi-rider pile-up in the opening premier class moto on Sunday.
Ferris was involved in the controversial incident that took Honda Racing’s defending champion Kyle Webster, teammate Wilson Todd, and Honda-supported privateer Liam Jackson out of contention just moments into the race, effectively ending his weekend and later discovering multiple fractures from the impact.
“While I was initially cleared of serious injury, I followed up with X-rays and scans yesterday,” Ferris confirmed. “Fractured T8, T9, subtle fractures [of] T10, T11 and T12. Six rib fractures and a fractured sacrum. I know this sport is risky – adding more risk is my issue.”
Ferris sits ninth in the standings at the halfway point of the season following a troubled past couple of rounds, claiming a single podium at Wonthaggi’s opening round in third overall. It’s unclear if he will be fit for Appin on June 14.
