World Supercross Championship organisers have exclusively revealed that the Australian Grand Prix will remain on the calendar in 2026, set to continue in Queensland despite speculation that the series wouldn’t be returning to the Gold Coast.

SX Global’s FIM-sanctioned series has been increasingly gaining traction since Bia Sports Group took ownership of World Supercross in recent seasons, successfully hosting events locally in Western Australia and Queensland.

While the decision was made last year to take the Australian round from Perth to the Gold Coast’s Cbus Super Stadium, there was a sense of unrest within the sport locally after the international event clashed with the Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross Championship finale last November.

It’s understood that AUS SX Holdings – commercial rights-holder of AUSX under the direction of former SX Global CEO and co-founder Adam Bailey – had been pushing back on World Supercross in Australia, suggested to have an exclusive arrangement with Motorcycling Australia (MA) to promote supercross locally that has resulted in an ongoing legal dispute between the pair.

While the national governing body declined to comment on its stance when contacted by MotoOnline last week, it is believed that World Supercross could be sanctioned directly by the FIM and effectively bypassing MA in a loophole that could secure the event’s longterm future in Australia.

“We can confirm that the FIM World Supercross Championship will race in Australia in 2026, reinforcing our commitment to the fans following the outstanding success of the last two years,” Tom Burwell, current CEO of the World Supercross Championship, told MotoOnline.

“We look forward to returning to Australia to deliver another world-class event. The full championship calendar, inclusive of Australia, will be announced in the coming weeks.”

World Supercross 2026 is understood to be commencing the new season with at least one round in August – likely during the American Pro Motocross break between Washougal and Unadilla – prior to pausing through September to make way for the Monster Energy SMX World Championship post-season.

It will then resume directly following the annual Monster Energy Motocross of Nations (MXoN) to be staged in Ernee, France, on October 2-4, with the balance of World Supercross to take place between mid-October and mid-December to complete an expanded schedule for the upcoming series.

Last year’s Australian GP was won by multiple world champion Ken Roczen (PMG Suzuki) after splitting the trio of SX1 race wins with Christian Craig (Quad Lock Honda) and Cooper Webb (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing) – also completing the overall podium in that order.

Webb, Eli Tomac (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Haiden Deegan (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing) were among the high-profile wildcard contingent secured for the Gold Coast, which marked the fourth-consecutive year of World Supercross visiting Australia.
