Previous MX2 championship leader Sacha Coenen managed to salvage a crucial haul of points just days after undergoing surgery on his broken collarbone, with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider finishing eighth overall at the MXGP of Great Britain on Sunday.

In his second American Pro Motocross appearance at Southwick last weekend, it has been formally confirmed that the 19-year-old sustained a clean break to his right collarbone in a late moto two crash, requiring surgery and the insertion of a plate ahead of Foxhills.

Coenen collected seven points via a fourth-place finish in Saturday’s qualification race, before 10-5 moto scores earned him eighth overall and a further 24 championship points. As a result, he trails Triumph Factory Racing’s Guillem Farres by 11 points after the Spaniard swept the motos.

“Crazy weekend, let’s say,” commented Coenen. “Coming in with an injury, I did not know what to expect or if I could race, but we made it happen, and it wasn’t too bad. I was feeling okay out there – if not the best.

“In the first moto I had a really bad jump out of the gate, and I tried to make my way [through]… I had a small crash – [I] lost the front. Second moto, I started second and stayed third for 20 minutes, and then I didn’t want to take any risks. Some good points, and we’ll get ready for next weekend.”

The 2026 MXGP World Championship continues over the next two weekends at Loket and Lommel, leaving Coenen to manage the injury before the series pauses for a one-weekend break ahead of Uddevalla on August 16.
