Recently cleared to train following multiple arm surgeries.
A return to racing at Geelong’s AUSX Open round of the 2026 Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross Championship is the goal for Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki’s Brad West, who continues his recovery following multiple arm surgeries.
The MX1 newcomer had been sidelined at various points throughout the national motocross championship this year, with ongoing arm issues from mid-season ultimately requiring corrective surgery.
West has since revealed that the initial surgery proved unsuccessful, with further procedures required on both arms to address the issue. The 22-year-old was initially slated to return at Auckland’s Australian Supercross Championship opener but is now targeting a comeback at Geelong’s November 7 round.
“Update on my recovery,” started West. “Halfway through motocross, I was having issues with my arms [and] I got surgery to try and get it sorted, but it ended up not being the issue. I had to get another surgery on both my arms, and I recovered from that.
“It’s been a couple of weeks since then – I got cleared to start working out with it about two weeks ago, and then I popped [the stitches] open again, so yeah, we should be good to start getting back on the bike in a bit, and hopefully be back for round three.”
Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki is currently fielding French journeyman Cedric Soubeyras and Ryan Alexanderson in the SX1 division, with West’s return set to add another KX450 to the team’s line-up for the remainder of the series.
Following the AUSX season-opener in Townsville, Soubeyras sits second in the SX1 standings, while Alexanderson is seventh overall.
