The 2026 MXGP World Championship reached its conclusion in Australia, with Hidden Valley Raceway hosting a somewhat quiet final round as the season drew to a close. Hear more from the leading riders of each division in this Reaction feature.

P1 | Jeffrey Herlings (Honda HRC Petronas):It’s been an amazing year, winning the world championship, winning 13 GPs, 22 race wins and all on a new team. I think this year I am smarter than in my previous titles, in the earlier rounds I wasn’t able to match the pace in some rounds and I accepted that. Sometimes you have to lose, to win and I think I’ve learnt that now and it’s paid off now because this run of eight GPs in a row is a really nice way to finish the championship and a good reward for myself and the entire team who have all worked so hard.

P2 | Romain Febvre (Kawasaki Racing Team):
I gave my all and battled to the end; it was close in China and again here but Jeffrey was tough to beat this year. It is never easy to defend the title so I am proud to take the silver medal for the third time in my career. That’s not bad and don’t forget that I am the oldest, almost thirty-five; not many riders have achieved success at my age. I felt comfortable on the track and I could push all weekend. I got a better start in the first race; I was quickly second and could race with Jeffrey but I lost his wheel a little with three or four laps to go. My start was again okay in the second moto but Jeffrey slid in the first turn and came across my front wheel so I had to work my way through the pack. We were pushing hard to the finish; I was close again but it was just too far to win. This was my final GP with Kawasaki after a wonderful seven years – a success story we will celebrate tonight -–but we still have the Nations in two weeks’ time. That race is always special and we have a good team with Tom [Vialle] and Mathis [Valin] so it would be nice to deliver a good result there for France and also for the team.

P3 | Tom Vialle (Honda HRC Petronas):
Ever since I got to ride the track, I’ve enjoyed it. I wasn’t here last year but from the first practice it was fun to ride and I think that showed this weekend. Winning the qualification yesterday was great and it allowed me to have first gate-pick and that meant I was able to get both holeshots and that secured me the Holeshot Award for the season so another bonus. My riding was good today, I wasn’t able to push as much as I would have liked in race one, but I think I showed in race two that I was close to winning so overall, I’m pretty happy. I think it’s been a good year for me, on a new bike, with a new team and I think if I can have a good off-season I can fight for even more wins next year.

P4 | Andrea Adamo (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing):
Quite happy compared to last weekend in China. We made some improvements and they paid off. We need to keep working in that way. 4-3-4 in the motos and tied on points for P3. A good weekend. Now we go back home finally and then the MX of Nations and I’m pumped for this race. I’m really happy about the season. It’s been solid, and I’m really proud. P5 in the championship and only a handful of points from the top four – we reached our goal. I know we need to work a bit more, both on what I am doing but also for the bike because when you bring a new one to the track then there are obvious improvements but also some development to do. I’m confident it will be good for 2027.

P5 | Pauls Jonass (Kawasaki Racing Team):
Fifth again but I was building my speed throughout the weekend and getting ever closer to the front four. What really pleased me were the starts at the end of the season and I took four-top-fives in the last five GPs. That’s a wrap with the GPs but we still have the Nations; we have a good team with two young guys who are also motivated so hopefully we can score a good result.

P6 | Calvin Vlaanderen (Red Bull Ducati Factory MXGP Team):
The final race is in the books, it was a pretty good day. I’m not entirely satisfied with my riding – I think it could have been better – but I’m happy to head home with two sixth-place finishes. I want to thank everyone involved in this project, it’s been a season of ups and downs, but we kept fighting and never gave up, and that’s something we can be proud of. I wish everyone the best for the future.

P7 | Jan Pancar (KTM):
P7 in MXGP of Australia, and P12 overall in the championship, with many ups and downs, but at the end is still a really good result while being a full privateer. Thank you to all my sponsors and fans to make this possible!

P1 | Camden McLellan (Triumph Factory Racing):
What a year! It was another great weekend here in Australia and I had a lot of fun on the track. I never really felt that good, to be honest, but I made it work and I’m really happy with how we finished the season. Most of all, I’m proud of the whole team. They deserve this win and they deserve the championship. To finish first and second in the championship and also win the Manufacturers Championship is awesome. It’s been an incredible year for Triumph, so a huge thank you to everyone involved.

P2 | Liam Everts (Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing):
It was a really good way to finish the season. I felt good on the bike all weekend, and it was nice to put everything together in the final moto. Once I got into the lead, I could focus on my own riding and pull away. To end the year with a win, another podium and fourth in the championship is really positive. A big thank you to the whole team for all their work this year.

P3 | Janis Reisulis (Monster Energy Yamaha):
Yeah, it was a really solid day and I’m really happy. I got the holeshot in the second race, which made things a lot easier compared to Race One. I didn’t get such a good start in the first one and I wasn’t feeling too comfortable. I also felt the heat quite a lot, but I still managed to finish fourth. In Race Two, I made a couple of mistakes while leading, but overall, I think it’s really solid to finish the season with third overall and another podium. I’m really happy with that. A huge thanks to the team because without them I couldn’t have done this, and a lot of love to my family for everything they’ve done for me throughout my career and especially this year. Now it’s time for Motocross of Nations in two weeks.

P4 | Guillem Farres (Triumph Factory Racing):
It’s been an unbelievable weekend here in Australia. We wrapped up the championship in the first race, with Camden taking the win and me finishing second, which was an amazing feeling. In race two, I got off to a decent start in third, but I didn’t quite have the pace and ended up finishing fifth. Overall, it’s been an incredible season and definitely one I’ll remember for the rest of my life. I’m super happy with everyone around me. Triumph and the whole team have done an amazing job all year. It hasn’t always been easy, but we’ve made the best of every situation, and I’m really happy and proud of what we’ve achieved together.

P5 | Sacha Coenen (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing):
Australia finished; and not the best one. Saturday was a bit difficult but my feeling was better on Sunday and I was a bit closer to the front. In the first moto I made a really good start but then messed up and had to come back to the top five. It was not easy to pass. I had a small crash also with a backmarker. The first corner of the second moto was pretty bad. I lost some time and then couldn’t get going. At least I was able to make a good pass to finish 4th. That’s it for this season. Now for the USA.

P6 | Kay Karssemakers Coenen (DRT Kawasaki):
Sixth overall was a good way to end the season with three consistent GPs in a row. In the first race I made a pretty big mistake and went off track and then another which put me back to eighth but I fought back strongly to seventh. I don’t know what went wrong at the second start; I was last into the first corner but I made some good passes already on the first lap and two more to sixth, close to fifth. I have enjoyed the travelling to the overseas GPs – the season went so quickly in the end and I still feel strong so now I’m looking forward to a good winter and a successful 2027.

P7 | Byron Dennis (KTM Racing Team):
Well that wraps the motocross season up for the year, what a place to do it . 6-8 moto results for the weekend, very happy with my speed and intensity to be able to go with the guys early on in the races. Feels good to be ticking some boxes these last couple of weekends, it’s been a massive effort from everyone involved and can’t thank them enough.
