Docked one license point and fine incurred after Salt Lake City finale.
An ‘obscene hand gesture’ following Saturday’s 450SX main event has resulted in Jorge Prado receiving a fine and one license point penalty, after the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider and Cooper Webb expressed their differences post-race.
The 25-year-old featured toward the front of the field for the duration of the main event, before coming under pressure in the closing stages from Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing duo Justin Cooper and triple 450SX champion Webb.
Cooper executed a late pass for P2, while Webb launched an aggressive final-corner attempt that proved unsuccessful. Prado crossed the line in third, although made his feelings clear regarding both the move and Webb immediately after the checkered flag.
The pair then exchanged words in the next rhythm lane, where Prado appeared to gesture toward Webb as he rode away, with race direction later assessing the incident and issuing a penalty.
A post-race statement from officials read: ‘Race direction reviewed an incident involving rider #26 (Prado) and rider #1 (Webb) in section eight after the finish line. After review, it was determined that rider #26 (Prado) violated the code of conduct by using an obscene hand gesture during the competition. Rider #26 (Prado) was assessed one rider license point and a fine.’
The Salt Lake City exchange is the latest development in an ongoing rivalry between Prado and Webb, whose notable run-ins in Detroit and Denver sparked a war of words across the closing stages of the Monster Energy Supercross season.
Prado’s season-finale podium saw the Spaniard conclude the 450SX championship ninth overall in his maiden campaign with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, while Webb finished third in his premier class title defense, with a sole victory coming at the Houston Triple Crown.
