SX1 winner Ken Roczen reflects on his sweep at North Harbour Stadium.
It was a clean-sweep for reigning Monster Energy Supercross 450SX champion Ken Roczen at round two of the 2026 Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross Championship, where the PMG Suzuki rider claimed all three SX1 final victories in Auckland. In this Debrief feature, MotoOnline caught up with Roczen post-race as he reflected on his North Harbour Stadium performance.
The track layout
Yeah, it was insane. Like, yesterday we rode press and the track was amazing – there was actually moisture in the dirt, and it was super tacky. Obviously, this was a very legit build, super tall, very peaky and a very technical track. Obviously, we got a little bit plagued by wind, especially yesterday, so that dried out the track a lot. We didn’t get enough moisture in overnight, so it started off really dry this morning. And then, you know, watering on top of the blue groove, it’s just a bit tough, right? So, a lot of riding here today, but I can’t complain.
A perfect score
I mean, I had a perfect day. P1 in qualifying, P1 in the heat, won superpole and all three main events. But I definitely had my work cut out for me because Christian [Craig] was riding really well, and I think I was pushing a little bit too hard in the first main event and was just all over the place. Lots of mistakes and just not good enough. And having said that, on top of it, Christian is an amazing rider. He’s really good in the whoops. He’s got great throttle control, really good timing, so he was on my tail the whole time. But luckily, I could get my crap together a little bit for the next one. I almost kind of slowed down to actually go faster because we are pretty close to the ocean, so the moisture at night was coming out and the blue groove was actually getting more wet. And the whoops were big. They got really cupped out. But sold-out stadium, full crowd – it was amazing.
Racing Christian Craig
It really was. And I mean, the good thing is with Christian, you know, we’re racing each other, super respectful. Sometimes these kinds of turns, like, you can just send it in there and just absolutely clean somebody out. It’s just kind of set up that way, especially with a track like this.
You know, in the turns, like for me leading, with how hard-packed it is, you just cannot be very aggressive in the turns. You almost have to kind of wait and just roll through it. So if somebody wants to send it from the back and just completely square it up and send it in there, then that’ll be a problem. But Christian doesn’t do those kinds of things. I don’t either. So, I mean, it was great racing.
Timing of his 2027 announcement
Super-strange. Yeah, I got blindsided a little bit with that too, to be honest. I didn’t… Yeah, it’s not like I care at this point, you know what I mean? But I just haven’t given it much thought at this point, you know, and I really just wanted to get to this race, next weekend, and in Paris. I just want to get it out of the way, and I really wanted to have people stop asking me about it. But honestly, I think the only way to really achieve that was actually to put it out there and just rip the band-aid off. Yeah, I was a little bit blindsided by it too, but I’m fine with it. You know, I followed it up yesterday evening, and yeah, it’s time to represent number one.
