Queensland Country Bank Stadium to host season-opener.
Organisers of the Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross Championship have revealed that Townsville will host the opening round of the 2026 season, with gates set to drop inside Queensland Country Bank Stadium on October 3.
Townsville’s venue is the first to be confirmed as part of the expanded five-round 2026 AUSX schedule – announced by promoter AME Group last week – with the championship also set to visit both New Zealand and Western Australia.
Supported by Tourism and Events Queensland, the opening round will feature premier-class Supercross competition alongside a full-scale Freestyle Kings Live show, combining both disciplines in a single event experience.
“Queensland Country Bank Stadium is a world-class venue, and the beautiful city of Townsville is the perfect setting to showcase AUSX Supercross in all its glory,” said AUSX CEO Adam Bailey.
“In addition, we’re kicking off the night with the world’s largest Freestyle Motocross stunt tour – Freestyle Kings Live. Incredible stunts alongside the greatest motorsport spectacle there is, in Supercross, on October 3, will make for an unmissable night in Townsville.”
The announcement was followed by a response from Motorcycling Australia (MA), which stated that the October 3 Townsville event would not form part of the Australian championship due to a scheduling clash with the KTM Australian Junior Motocross Championship in Shepparton, and the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations on the same weekend in France.
In addition, the statement raised questions surrounding the proposed New Zealand round, indicating that the event remains tentative pending formal approval from both Motorcycling New Zealand and Motorcycling Australia:
‘The New Zealand round of the 2026 Australian Supercross Championship remains tentative until a formal approval process has been completed by Motorcycling New Zealand alongside Motorcycling Australia and FIM Oceania. However, we are optimistic the event will go ahead.’
It remains uncertain whether a resolution between the promoter and sport’s national governing body will have to be resolved for the Boost Mobile AUSX calendar to proceed as currently announced.
