A brief statement on social media has revealed Chase Sexton’s decision to exit the Pro Motocross Championship with two rounds remaining in season 2025, instead opting to manage a ‘weak’ right shoulder and focus on the SMX playoffs.

Sexton, 25, has been in the headlines this week after winning the opening moto on Saturday and then crashing out of the second encounter with a mysterious brake malfunction.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing has since clarified that debris in his rear brake led to the incident, which then caused the front wheel to lock in the aftermath of the crash, and the reigning 450MX champion will undergo further evaluations on his shoulder this week.

“Good day going at Ironman until it wasn’t, going 1-DNF on the day,” commented Sexton. “[A] brake malfunction [in the] second moto was out of my and Jade Dungey’s control, and for me, I was just a passenger at that point – I tried all I could do to save it. With that being said, I’m still encouraged by my riding and am happy with how it was going up until that point.

“As far as my body goes, my right shoulder is weak from the crash, and I’m getting it looked at this week. It’s in my best interest to get ready for SMX and come in at 100 percent. Just want to say thank you to the fans for always having my back and I can’t wait to see y’all in Charlotte.”

Sexton has experienced a turbulent Pro Motocross campaign in 2025, crashing out of the opening moto of the season at Fox Raceway, before returning five rounds later at RedBud. Victory at round eight in Washougal was a highlight, as was his opening race victory on the weekend.

With his withdrawal from the outdoor series, Sexton’s next scheduled appearance is the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) Playoff 1 at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s zMAX Dragway in North Carolina on September 6.
