Taking a round off to reset altogether following recent crashes.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing has confirmed Aaron Plessinger has been ruled out for Detroit this weekend, expected to take a single weekend off before resuming his 450SX season.
Plessinger was already hurting after his impact with Ken Roczen (Progressive Cycle Gear Suzuki) in Indianapolis, before a late crash at Birmingham added to his troubles.
A social media post from the team announced: ‘Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider Aaron Plessinger will miss Detroit’s 11th round of 450SX this weekend. Still feeling the effects of crashes in recent weeks, The Cowboy intends to reset and give his body an extra week to heal up. We’ll see you back on track soon, AP!’
Plessinger started strongly and was circulating inside the top 10 last week before he went down and exited the main event in its closing stages. While any major injuries were avoided, it was a another large one for the 30-year-old fan favourite, who currently sits 10th in the Monster Energy Supercross standings.
“I hit a rock on the face of a jump and I felt the rear-end start to rise, which is when I knew I wasn’t going to make the triple,” Plessinger recalled. “I tried to ditch the bike, but it was too late, and the ‘bars hit my knees.
“After that it was a bit of a blur – I think I did a flip or two and, when I landed, I heard something really crunch so that was the end of my night.
“I went to the medical unit, they checked me out, and I am in one piece, but I am just sore and bummed out. I felt like we made a lot of good progress in the break, but I just have to keep grinding to get to where we need to be.”
