Strong showing at Pro Motocross Unadilla National.
Australian MX2 champion Alex Larwood described his American Pro Motocross debut with Quad Lock Honda at Unadilla as ‘surreal’ after banking a top-10 score in 250MX moto two.
Drafted in for the final three rounds of the outdoor series, the 22-year-old produced a measured outing at the famed New York venue, improving throughout each session.
Larwood qualified 32nd in the 250MX division, before advancing to 16th in moto one despite starting outside the top-20. A stronger start in the second moto saw him run as high as seventh, before crossing the line in 10th – with his combined 16-10 results earning him 13th overall.
“It was a pretty unreal day, honestly,” reflected Larwood. “Starting with qualifying, it wasn’t my best – I’m not really the best qualifier – but then to be able to come through the pack in that first race and end up 16th… you just don’t know where you stack up when you come over here.
“It’s a completely different environment with racing and everything, and then to be able to run in the top 10 for most of the second race was pretty cool, and I ended up 10th, which is an unreal feeling.
“Coming from home and not really knowing where you stack up, to then show potential is pretty cool. I never really thought that I could make it this far – it’s just a surreal feeling. We’ll keep grinding, but it’s a good starting point, and I’m really excited for the next two.”
Larwood will contest the Budds Creek and Ironman Nationals with the team, while his strong US debut could potentially strengthen his case for Team Australia’s MX2 position at the Motocross of Nations (MXoN) in Ernee, France, on October 2-4.
