Four-time national MX2 champion Wilson Todd has announced that he is stepping away from racing professionally indefinitely, citing ongoing health issues that have ultimately brought the decorated Queenslander’s career to a halt.

Detailed in a candid social media post, the decision from the 28-year-old followed Honda Racing’s confirmation ahead of the Appin round of Penrite ProMX that he would be sidelined, with Nathan Crawford instead called into the MX1 effort from Traralgon.

Todd has battled a wide range of injuries since graduating to the premier class in 2024, continually finding a way to return despite that adversity. He was most recently caught up in a multi-rider first corner incident at Toowoomba, taking damage to his liver in the process, and is now taking an extended time on the sidelines.

“[I’m] feeling ready to share some updates on myself,” Todd began. “[I] really haven’t been able to talk or think about the matter as it has been pretty emotional. I’ve had to make the decision to step away from racing for the foreseeable future – not going to completely rule out returning if it feels right.

“I’ve put my body through absolute hell these past few years, lifelong injuries that you would do absolutely anything to take back, and a lot of those [have] been things that I had no control over.
The amount of setbacks that I was put in, and busting my ass to get back to being competitive, then setback again before being able to redeem any of my work to try feed Damo started really taking over my mind.

“Towards the end, I was not able to focus on practicing anymore, experiencing serious head noise when I needed to concentrate on the training. I’m not even joking when I said I was in tears while doing my practice motos, and it just kept getting worse to the point the depression and anxiety were creeping into my home life as well, which was the final straw.

“I need to take the time to heal my body,” he continued. “My team and close group around me have been absolutely amazing and understanding, all treating me like I were their own son, and I’m so grateful for making this transition easier. I have so much to be proud of, as this sport has taken me to unbelievable places and made so many new family members.”

Todd is widely recognised as one of – if not the most – successful MX2 competitors of the modern era in Australia, having captured the outdoor championship on four separate occasions (2018, 2019, 2022, 2023).

He spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons contesting the MX2 World Championship with Dixon Racing Team aboard Kawasaki equipment, recording a career-high of fifth overall at the MXGP of Garda before returning to Australia with Honda Racing.

Victory in the MX1 class on two occasions highlighted Todd’s winning potential aboard the CRF450R, although injuries ultimately prevented him from building sustained momentum in the 450 division. Still, he finished third overall in last year’s MX1 standings.
