Supercross specialist on 250SX with PRMX team in 2026.
Focusing on supercross fulltime in 2026, Luke Clout has been a high-profile addition to Partzilla Blaster PRMX Racing onboard Kawasaki machinery in 250SX East this season. While displaying flashes of speed during the afternoon, it’s been more difficult to come by main event results so far, impacted by a share of misfortune along the way. MotoOnline spoke to the 31-year-old this week leading into Cleveland to get his Fast Thoughts on the journey and what’s next in his career.
Experience in the US so far…
Yeah, it’s been good. I’ve been over here for a few months now, and the whole experience has been awesome – getting to race every weekend and riding with some really good guys during the week. Racing the world-class talent over here has been great, so I’ve been enjoying my time a lot, and it’s definitely helped me become a better rider, which was the main goal.
Performances on track…
It’s been a bit up and down. The results in the end haven’t been exactly where I want them to be, but my riding has been good and I’ve been improving. My qualifying results have been strong week in and week out, but come race time I haven’t been getting off the gate as well as I need to against the factory teams. Overall, I’m not really content with the results, but my riding has been there and I’ve been building. If I can get a start and run with those top guys early, I think I’ll be in a much better position, but I’ve mostly been stuck in tough spots, and it’s hard to move forward when everyone is so fast. Like I said, it’s been up and down, but overall it’s been pretty good.
Reverting to the 250 class…
It was kind of a last-minute deal to come over here and do this. I had some commitments at the start of the year in Germany, and the 450 side of PRMX was already sorted, but they needed a 250 rider and I wanted to come over. I wasn’t really looking to do the motocross side of things this year, so I was keen to take the opportunity when the 250 ride became available. It’s been quite a challenge stepping back from the 450 to the 250 – probably harder than I expected after spending so much time on the bigger bike. In race conditions, that’s where I’ve noticed it the most. During the week you can focus more on the smaller engine, but once it’s race time, a lot of that goes out the window. Overall, it’s been more of a challenge than I anticipated, but it’s been good.
The PRMX team…
The team has been really good. Julien [Perrier] has been awesome, and for the budget and everything they’re working with, they run a great program. It’s been a really good experience so far, and they’ve been very welcoming, especially bringing me in at short notice.
Structure away from the races…
That kind of rolls on from the last question about the team. They’ve got a facility with Jack Chambers and Chase Sexton has come onboard, as well. They’ve got two supercross tracks and a full set-up that we’re lucky enough to train out of, so that’s been awesome. Being able to ride with the whole team during the week, having mechanics on hand all the time, and having everything prepped day in, day out has really helped my program. Getting to train with Chase, having a truck ready to go, and riding on properly prepped tracks has been an awesome opportunity. For someone my age, being able to learn from someone like Chase and the other guys we ride with has been really valuable. Even having Zach Osborne involved and doing a day a week with him has been great. It’s just been a really cool experience and one I’ll definitely remember.
What comes next beyond Salt Lake…
That’s a good question. I’ve got three more weeks here with three rounds to go, so I’ll finish those and then head home. After that, it’s a bit up in the air and we’ll figure it out. I don’t have anything locked in at the moment, but the plan is to come home and then prepare for World Supercross, which starts a bit earlier this year from what I understand. Hopefully I can get a deal done there, and then ideally come back over here for SMX before finishing out the Australian Supercross season and the rest of World Supercross. Nothing is set in stone yet, but that’s the plan.
