SX1 winner Christian Craig recalls opening round victory.
It was a near-perfect start to the 2026 Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross Championship for American Christian Craig in Townsville, with the Honda Racing import claiming his heat race win, before sweeping both SX1 main events. In this Debrief feature, Craig reflects on a dominant opening round and beginning his Australian campaign on top.
Winning the opener
All around, it was a good day for me. I haven’t had a day like that since probably 2022, so yeah, shout out to everyone that put on this event. It was a lot of fun. Came straight from the last SMX round, where I was on the ground and sore and beat up, but we showed up and put in a whole good day.
Title prospects
Good qualifying, and superpole I had a good lap going, slid out at the end, so shout out to Luke [Clout] – he was strong all day [and his] times were right by mine the whole time, so it’s going to be interesting. We’ve got a couple wildcards coming up, but yeah, five-round short series, so you’ve got to make the most of it.
AUSX debut
I was impressed with the amount of fans that showed up. The track was super-dry on press day, and then I was amazed with how much moisture they were able to hold into it during the day, so it got super tricky. At first, it looked really simple, the track layout, but then as it broke down, it got pretty, pretty nasty. As you can see in the SX2 main, it was chaos. It could catch you off guard really quick, so I had to be smart with that, take the good lines. Other than that, yeah, just right away with it.
Comparing Honda Racing with Quad Lock Honda
It’s similar. Same owner, obviously. We just have a little bit different mechanics and I think a little bit different motor. Other than that, I brought my suspension, brought my bars, brought a couple of parts that I prefer… But other than that, man, it was a strong bike all day. Shout out to the team. You know, Yarrive [Konsky] obviously does it top-notch every year. He expects the most out of us, and he gives us the best.
