High-profile American targeted to complete 2025 supercross roster.
Monster Energy CDR Yamaha is seeking international rider options for the entire 2025 Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross Championship, with team owner Craig Dack revealing that a verbal agreement has been met, but the deal isn’t yet signed.
AUSX is set to commence in Redcliffe on October 11-12, with CDR and Yamaha Motor Australia determined to halt Honda’s recent dominance in the series.
A third seat has long been in the pipeline for the Victorian-based CDR organisation to add to its full-time domestic roster of Jed Beaton and Aaron Tanti, but an additional signing has become paramount following Beaton’s season-ending leg injury sustained last month during the closing stages of ProMX.
Former Monster Energy Supercross 250SX West champion Christian Craig – who is on a Supercross-only contact with Star Racing in the US – has constantly been linked to CDR for the AUSX series in recent months, which would mark the 34-year-old Californian’s first campaign in Australia, but Dack stopped short of making any formal connection to the speculation.
“We’ll have an off-shore rider for Supercross,” CDR team owner Craig Dack told MotoOnline. “It’s an American Yamaha rider that we are talking to, and so we have needed to get their blessing – which we have – because we don’t want to be stealing our sister teams’ riders.
“Speaking with the rider and his management, they seem all happy with everything, so it’s just a matter of getting the contract signed which, it’s been verbalised, but until the document is signed, nothing more can be said.”
In terms of Beaton, Dack indicated that it is more than likely that a return to racing won’t be on the cards during supercross, instead targeting next year’s Penrite ProMX Championship. He had comfortably held the MX1 red plate prior to his injury with just two rounds remaining.
“I very much doubt Jed will be back for any supercross rounds,” added Dack. “A broken femur is a serious injury, even though he is progressing really well, I think it would be smarter for us to forget about supercross this year and get him fully fit for motocross next year.”
It’s all but certain that the Monster Energy CDR Yamaha team has withdrawn from the World Supercross Championship after capturing the 2024 crown with legendary American Eli Tomac, however, Dack has been reluctant to shed any light on the team’s position.
