The second day of competition headlined Wednesday at the 2023 Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, with another packed schedule of on-track action.

Racing got underway in the morning to complete the remaining opening motos from the 36 classes before the afternoon gave way to the start of second motos.

After a dominant performance in Open Pro Sport on Tuesday, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rider Daxton Bennick had earned the attention of onlookers as the 250 Pro Sport field lined up for the first time.

However, Bennick would no doubt face challenges from the likes of KTM Orange Brigade’s Julien Beaumer, GasGas riders Evan Ferry and Mark Fineis, Rock River Yamaha’s Avery Long, and NSA Yamaha Amateur Factory Team rider Gavin Towers.

Beaumer hit the front early and went on to win ahead of a charging Fineis, with Towers third. Bennick, meanwhile, was never a factor, mired in a battle just outside the top five throughout the moto, ultimately settling for seventh.

With a win in 250 B to start the week, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Casey Cochran was another rider garnering attention as the Schoolboy 2 field took to the starting gate for the first time. He went on to deliver, taking the checkered flag ahead of Logan Best (Yamaha) and Krystian Janik (Kawasaki).

Following an impressive victory in 125 Jr, GasGas Amateur Team rider Tiger Wood made an even bigger statement on Wednesday during the first moto of Schoolboy 1. He topped Landon Hartz (Yamaha) and Carter Malcolm (GasGas).

The two respective Supermini classes bookended moto one on Wednesday, featuring a loaded line-up of mini-bike talent led by KTM Orange Brigade’s Seth Dennis, Husqvarna rider Deacon Denno and Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green’s Landen Gordon. All three riders were in the mix across both classes.

Supermini 1 opened the morning and it was Dennis who controlled the moto from start to finish. The young racer got a stellar jump out the gate to easily claim the holeshot and quickly gapped the field, winning from Denno and Gordon. It was then Gordon who won Supermini 2, over Canyon Richards (KTM) and Cole Timboe (KTM).

The return of Open Pro Sport highlighted the set of second motos that concluded the afternoon, as Bennick looked to pick up where he left off following a moto one victory. Unfortunately for his competitors, that’s exactly what happened, leading Beaumer and Towers.

Additional moto winners included Mike Brown (Senior 40+), Jaydin Smart (65cc 7-9), Kyle Paleologos (250 C Jr. 12-17 Limited), Jeremy Fappani (450 B Limited), Wyatt Thurman (85cc 10-12 Limited), Ronnie Renner (Senior 45+), Chase Haynes (250 C Limited), Mayla Herrick (Girls 11-16) and Easton Graves (65cc 10-11).

A series of second race winners were led by Carlos Badiali (Vet 30+), Jadon Cooper (450 B), Makai Olerich (125 C), Thurman (85cc 10-12), Smart (65cc 7-9 Limited) and Jayce Wolf (Mini Sr. 2 13-15.
