Muscle soreness sustained in heat race impact.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Eli Tomac has been cleared of any major injury following his early exit from Saturday’s Monster Energy Supercross finale in Salt Lake City.
The former 450SX points-leader was caught out by the split lane shortly after the first turn of heat one, with an alternate line choice resulting in contact with another rider and an impact to his hip region.
Tomac subsequently withdrew from the 17th and final round as a precautionary measure, although he has since confirmed that – despite general soreness – no significant injuries were sustained in the incident.
“Shaking my head on yesterday’s crash, but what do you do, it’s Supercross, and stuff happens,” said Tomac. “[I] totally hammered my hip on my bike and footpeg. Nothing broke, just [the] muscle beat up and locked up again. Almost [an] identical injury to Cleveland, but [on] the opposite side.
“Quite the up-and-down season, but the highs were higher than the lows, and I’m totally looking forward to my Red Bull KTM barking outdoors.”
Tomac’s first Supercross campaign with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing resulted in four victories and five additional podium finishes, securing fourth overall in the 450SX standings after holding the red plate at multiple stages throughout the season.
The 33-year-old will now shift his focus to the Pro Motocross portion of the SMX World Championship, which begins at Fox Raceway on May 30.
