Captured: 2026 Pro Motocross Rd6 Southwick

Unpacking moments and narratives that shaped the weekend.

Round six of the Pro Motocross Championship brought the series to the iconic sands of Southwick, where an eventful weekend of racing unfolded in both the 450MX and 250MX categories. Relive the action through our Captured feature, highlighting the key moments from the weekend in illustrated form.

Disaster struck early at Southwick, with 250MX points leader Jo Shimoda crashing in qualifying and sustaining a fractured collarbone and a concussion. It continues a frustrating run for the Japanese rider, who has endured a series of significant setbacks over the past eight months just as his momentum has started to build.

The ultra-talented Coenen brothers were back in action at Southwick and made an immediate impact by topping both the 450MX and 250MX qualifying sessions. Their respective days were eventful to say the least, with more on that below.

The Haiden Deegan versus Jett Lawrence rivalry continued at Southwick, and by now it’s clear the pair aren’t exactly fond of one another. Rivalries, however, are part of what makes sport compelling – especially when two riders are fighting for the same prize. Regardless of which side you’re on, the ongoing battle continues to provide plenty of entertainment and talking points each weekend.

Hunter Lawrence looked destined for a perfect 1-1 score at Southwick until this late-race moment in moto two erased what could have been a dominant overall performance.

The full Sacha Coenen experience was on display at Southwick. Blistering speed, plenty of moments, a heavy moto two crash that may have resulted in a shoulder or collarbone injury… and still a perfect 1-1 scorecard. Just to underline the performance, he won moto one by more than 30 seconds.

A career-high score for Kayden Minear with fourth overall – highlighted by third in moto two. The potential is there for the young Australian.

This is how the opening 450MX moto began, with a tale of two outcomes for Jett Lawrence and Lucas Coenen. The latter would rally all the way back to fourth place, before a heavy crash drew a premature end to his moto – and day – at Southwick.

Six rounds into the Pro Motocross Championship and we have a new points leader in the 250MX division, with Cole Davies earning the red plate and holding a two-point advantage over Levi Kitchen.

Traction was at a premium in the deep sands of the iconic Massachusetts venue. Paddle tire, anyone?

The most talked-about foot in perhaps the history of motocross – even Jett mentioned in the press conference that he is tired of talking about it, maintaining that he’s currently racing at 70 percent. The Honda HRC Progressive team deployed a new piece of hardware on the defending champion’s bike, with an updated left foot peg aimed at giving him more comfort.

There were several notable cameo appearances at Southwick, with current EMX250 points leader – and newly-signed Kawasaki Racing Team MX2 rider – Francisco Garcia right at the top of that list. The 18-year-old recorded 9-8 moto scores for eighth overall in a stacked 250MX field, further underlining why he is regarded as one of the sport’s brightest young prospects. Keep an eye on Garcia over the coming years – he’s a name you’ll likely be hearing a lot more of.

That’s another year of The Wick 338 in the books. The iconic sand circuit proved especially unforgiving in 2026, wreaking havoc on many of the sport’s top riders throughout the weekend. Of the entire Monster Energy SMX World Championship schedule, Southwick remains one of – if not the – most demanding venues, as showcased by just one of the many brutal whooped-out sections pictured here. Until next year!
