Longtime 250 contender expected to make 450SMX transfer next year.
Off-season surgery on his shoulder injury sustained at the SMX Final in Las Vegas will delay Jordon Smith’s 2026 campaign, the Triumph Factory Racing rider due to miss the start of Monster Energy Supercross this January.
Smith, 29, crashed through a high-speed section during 250SMX qualifying at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which resulted in a dislocated right shoulder – still going on to finish sixth overall.
Further scans following the incident revealed the extent of Smith’s shoulder damage, prompting surgery with a recovery time that is expected to extend into the opening stages of Supercross next year. He is expected to be leading Triumph’s maiden 450SX entry onboard the TF 450-X.
“Unfortunately from my crash in Las Vegas where I dislocated my shoulder, I went home and had an MRI on it, which showed I had some damage to it in tearing my rotator cuff and labrum,” Smith explained.
“It’s unfortunate. The doctors felt like I needed to get it fixed to get back to 100 percent and ensure no more dislocations, so I’m about five weeks out of surgery now, trying to do everything I can to be back as quickly as possible.
“As of right now, it looks like I’m going to miss the first part of the Supercross season, but I hope to be back as soon as we can and be back on the gate racing.”
While Smith’s future is yet to be formally announced, Triumph Factory Racing has confirmed that it will field Danish talent Mikkel Haarup in the 450MX category of the 2026 Pro Motocross Championship.
