Now facing a race against time for Birmingham Supercross.
A broken foot has 450SX standout Joey Savatgy in a race against time for the Birmingham round of Monster Energy Supercross on March 21, after the Quad Lock Honda rider was injured in Indianapolis.
The 32-year-old’s impressive 2026 form continued at Lucas Oil Stadium last Saturday, qualifying seventh-fastest overall before recording 7-5 finishes in the opening two Triple Crown races.
Savatgy came unstuck in the third race, however, with an awkward landing on the double following the whoop section forcing him to withdraw, with scans this week revealing a broken medial cuneiform.
“[I have a] broken medial cuneiform in my foot,” said Savatgy. “Fortunately, nothing that needs surgery, so now the race is on to get it to a place where I’m able to ride and be competitive again. Fingers crossed for Birmingham. [I] never crashed, just landed too far on my toes, and hurt my foot. My boot got stuck under the side panel… tough night.”
Despite the incident, Savatgy still earned ninth overall in Indianapolis and currently sits sixth in the 450SX standings after nine rounds of the Monster Energy SMX World Championship season.
Update: Savatgy has since confirmed he will remain sidelined for this weekend’s 10th round of the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross Championship in Birmingham. The 32-year-old attempted to return to riding mid-week in a bid to line up on Saturday night, but the focus now shifts to being ready for Detroit.
