450SMX 13th seed won't contest upcoming 2025 post-season.
Spaniard Jorge Prado and Monster Energy Kawasaki have mutually chosen to withdraw from the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) playoffs, the team has confirmed, following a troubled 2025 season that sparks further uncertainty surrounding his future.
With factory teammate Jason Anderson already sidelined, the reigning MXGP world champion Prado’s decision not to line up this weekend in Charlotte – in addition to St. Louis and Las Vegas – will see the team absent from 450SMX altogether.
“Following his first Pro Motocross Championship campaign and placing sixth overall, Jorge Prado and Kawasaki mutually decided that he will not participate in the upcoming SuperMotocross Playoff rounds,” a brief statement from Kawasaki revealed.
“Monster Energy Kawasaki will attend Charlotte this weekend in support of Kawasaki Team Green riders Enzo Temmerman and Vincent Wey as they compete in the SMX Next World All-Stars Class in Charlotte and St. Louis.”
After signing a three-year deal to arrive in the United States from the grand prix paddock, Prado was injured at Anaheim 2 and didn’t return until Pro Motocross, in which he ultimately finished sixth overall. It was far from impressive, however, as the four-time world champion largely struggled to mesh with the KX450SR outdoors.
Despite being based in the US, Prado won’t represent Spain at next month’s Motocross of Nations (MXoN) in Indiana due to a ‘contractual situation with his current team’. That, combined with this SMX decision, signals that the Prado/Kawasaki union could potentially already be over following a single term together.
