Multi-bike collision in MX2 moto two prompts withdrawal.
After an opening-lap incident during the second MX2 moto in Argentina, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Sacha Coenen says that he is ‘okay physically’ despite withdrawing from the round.
The 19-year-old made an impressive start to his MXGP season-opener, claiming victory in Saturday’s qualifying race and the accompanying 10 world championship points, before finishing P2 in the first of Sunday’s two motos.
Problems emerged moments after the gate dropped for race two, however, with Coenen caught up in a multi-bike collision over a double jump exiting the second corner. The impact resulted in a DNF in race two, although he later revealed that he escaped the incident without injury.
“[It was] a good weekend in Argentina,” reflected Coenen. “A good win in the qualifying moto, but then my start was bad in the first moto, and I was around 12th or 13th. I made my way back to second but had some arm-pump, and it was difficult to ride.
“In the second race, two riders collided in the air in front of me on the first jump, [and] I couldn’t avoid them. We weren’t able to continue, but I am okay physically, and we’ll see if we can do better in Spain.”
With his results from round one combined, Coenen is ranked eighth in the MX2 standings, as the series heads to Spain for the MXGP of Andalucia on March 21-22.
