In one of the wildest races of the year, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cooper Webb outdueled Red Bull KTM’s Chase Sexton to win the Seattle Supercross. It was Webb’s third win of 2024 and he crucially clawed five important points back on championship leader Jett Lawrence with the victory.

The race began with Sexton grabbing the early lead, but it wasn’t long before Webb found his way into second. Honda HRC’s Jett Lawrence came from around 10th on the opening lap and was putting pressure on Webb for second before he clipped the Yamaha rider’s rear tire and went down.

Webb inched up to Sexton and sat in his shadow for much of the race. Sexton stalled his KTM landing on a Tuff Block at one point and Webb got close again. The two diced a bit before Sexton was able to put a small gap over Webb. Suddenly, Sexton stalled again by the mechanics area which this time gave Webb the lead.

Still though, Sexton pushed him all the way to the checkered flag as they played cat and mouse in the final turn with Webb just narrowly grabbing the win. Sexton was left to settle with second while Lawrence rounded out the podium behind them.

Red Bull KTM’s Aaron Plessinger got very close to passing Lawrence for third on the final lap after Lawrence had made a few mistakes and lost touch with the leaders. Plessinger would end up fourth though ahead of Progressive Ecstar Suzuki’s Ken Roczen who would hold of Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac for fifth.

Tomac brought it home sixth ahead of Honda HRC’s Hunter Lawrence in seventh, Star Racing’s Justin Cooper in eighth, Troy Lee Designs Red Bull GasGas’ Justin Barcia in ninth and Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jason Anderson in 10th.

Webb’s win pulled him to 16 points down of Jett Lawrence with six rounds to go. The final Triple Crown race of 2024 is next week in St. Louis, Missouri as Webb continues to try to claw his way back towards the points leader.
