After being penalized seven points for jumping on a red cross flag, Detroit 450SX winner Chase Sexton has moved to address that moment which led to the penalty at Ford Field.

During the main event at round 10, Sexton jumped a double where the flag was raised, making time on Cooper Webb (Red Bull KTM) and Justin Barcia (TLD Red Bull GasGas), who rolled the section behind him.

“For me in my position, Dean [Wilson] was up and riding, and I rolled the first jump so I was honestly confused on what I should do, if I should jump, if I should roll, I didn’t really know what to do,” Sexton recalled. “He was already on his bike and it wasn’t even on that jump.”

Despite the penalty, Sexton was still awarded the race victory, which was his second main event win of the season. However, he took away only 19 points from Detriot, meaning he lost further ground to title rivals Webb and Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing), who were second and third respectively on the night.

“For me, momentum-wise and riding, this [main event victory] is big for me,” Sexton added. I have had a few tough races, especially after last weekend going down and finishing 10th, I needed this. How I did it, I feel like that’s what I needed. For me, it’s just getting momentum back on my side and hopefully, we can click a few of these things off.”

Monster Energy Supercross moves to Seattle this Sunday for round 11, with Sexton 17 points adrift from red plate-holder Webb, who leads Tomac by two points.
