There are still further improvements to be made amid a surge of late-season form outdoors, Cooper Webb stated after landing on the podium again at Pala 2.

After achieving his first Lucas Oil Pro Motocross podium of 2021 at Ironman, Webb continued his charge with fourth overall at Fox Raceway on Saturday.

Webb made a strong start in the opening moto, ultimately finishing fourth after being hampered by traffic mid-race. The Red Bull KTM rider grabbed the holeshot in moto two, regulated to fourth soon after.

However, he was able to capitalize on Ken Roczen’s lack of pace due to fatigue and reclaim third position in the early laps, going on to finish the race in that place.

A revised frame has been attributed to his improvements in these closing stages, climbing to fifth in the premier class standings and maintaining that those changes to the chassis have been critical in his step forward.

“Another big breakthrough today and closer to the front battling with the boys,” Webb reflected. “Great starts, as they have been all year, but I feel like since the bike changes I have been able to run up there a bit more consistently.”

In what was a mediocre start to this year’s 450MX series, the current Monster Energy Supercross champion has started to build form in the latter stages of the year, still chasing further improvements in a bid to achieve an elusive victory before the series concludes.

“Still trying to improve, I still feel like there’s some things I can get better at to fight for a win or even a second, but overall I’m really happy,” he continued. ” I usually  am not a huge fan of this track, so I was pretty pumped with my riding today and just a few things we need to work on.

“But overall it was a great day, gnarly conditions being pretty hot and the track honestly being pretty gnarly. I’m happy, we will take it from here and see what we can do next week.”

Webb will have two more races to achieve a moto win before the championship draws to a close, as round 12 this weekend at Hangtown marks the series’ final round of the 2021 campaign.
