The recent unfortunate luck of the TLD Red Bull GasGas team continued at Unadilla, as their lone rider for the weekend Pierce Brown hit the ground hard in the second moto, eventually helped off the track by medical personnel.

While the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series took two weekends off ahead of the final five rounds of the championship, the TLD Red Bull GasGas team lost two of their three riders, Michael Mosiman and Justin Barcia to injuries sustained in separate practice crashes.

Which left Brown as the only rider on the squad as the action got back underway at Unadilla for round eight of the season. Unfortunately, after a rough go in moto one, Brown crashed hard in moto two, ending his day on the spot.

“I felt really good on the bike during qualifying, so I was stoked for the day but the first moto started out pretty rough,” Brown explained. “I fell on the first lap and then a couple laps later, I kind of had a big one and it shook me up a little bit but I got back up and finished the moto in 29th.

“For Moto 2, I was ready to come out swinging but it was a tough one as well. I came together with some guys off the start and went down. I was already buried, so I was trying to be calm and make my way through the pack, and a couple of laps in, I hit a really bad kicker in one of the jumps in the back part of the track and went over the bars. I tried to save it but I just couldn’t pull it through. It was a big one.”

While it’s not clear if he’ll return to action this weekend, Brown commented that his head and shoulder were the cause of his DNF and he’d be following up with doctors before making a decision on racing Budds Creek this Saturday.

“I hit my head pretty hard and my left shoulder, so that put me out for the day,” he continued. “I’m super bummed on how the day went and how it had to end but we’re going to see some specialists next week to make sure that my body is good and if not, we’re going to take the right precautions to get back as soon as possible.”

With Barcia sidelined for an undisclosed amount of time and Mosiman taking things day-to-day in regards to his return, it remains to be seen if the team will field any riders this weekend as the series continues for round nine in Maryland.
