As the Pro Motocross action got back underway following two weekends off, it was Ken Roczen (Team Honda HRC) and Justin Cooper (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) topping the timesheets in qualifying at Unadilla.

After finding himself in sixth place after the opening qualifying session, Team Honda HRC’s Ken Roczen rebounded to top the timesheets with a 2m21.339s lap time in the second session.

Roczen, who sits second in the standings coming into Unadilla, will look to re-gain some points to close the gap on red-plate holder Dylan Ferrandis as the gate drops this afternoon.

Aaron Plessinger (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) found his way to the sharp end of the timesheets, finding himself in second at the end of the session. Not traditionally a great qualifier, Plessinger will be eager to capitalize on great gate pick in moto one.

Third place was Chase Sexton (Team Honda HRC) as the first rider in the 2m22s range. Sexton won the previous round at Washougal and is looking to keep the momentum going in New York.

Joey Savatgy put his Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM inside the top five in qualifying, his best performance of the year so far in the timed session. Savatgy’s been consistently hovering around the top five over the last several rounds.

Points leader Ferrandis rounded out the top five with a 2m24.810s lap. Ferrandis leads the championship coming into this round by 39 points over Roczen with just five rounds to go in the championship.

The Red Bull KTM duo of Marvin Musquin and Cooper Webb were sixth and seventh, both riders looking to continue the momentum they found in Washougal.

Eighth place was Coty Schock who continues to impress aboard his FXR Chaparral Honda, besting the Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha of Christian Craig who was ninth.

Justin Bogle (Rocky Mountain ATV/MC) put himself inside the top 10 as he continues to show great form late this season. Bogle just edging out Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Kawasaki) who ended the session in 11th place.

For the sixth time in eight attempts this season, Cooper found himself atop the results of 250MX qualifying. Cooper’s 2m21.980s lap put him nearly two seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

The current points leader looks to stretch his lead in the championship at his home race today, currently leading Jett Lawrence (Team Honda HRC) by just eight points.

Second place in the session went to RJ Hampshire (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) who’s been a consistent front runner this season, despite mistakes that have hindered his championship.

Returning to the series after being sidelined from the second round on, Seth Hammaker (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki) laid down a 2m23.987s lap to end the session in third place ahead of teammate Jo Shimoda.

Rounding out the top five was Jalek Swoll (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) as he looks to find his second podium of the season today in New York. Sixth went to Club MX Yamaha’s Garrett Marchbanks.

Hunter Lawrence found himself in seventh at the end of the session. The Team Honda HRC rider will need to find a podium today to keep his championship hopes alive, now 44 points back from Cooper.

Eighth place went to Jett Lawrence (Team Honda HRC) with a 2m25.619s lap time. Lawrence is aiming to take the red plate back from Cooper today as the gate drops on round eight.

Washougal winner Jeremy Martin (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) was ninth fastest in the sessions. Martin’s injury riddled season has him well out of championship contention, but with the pressure off he could very well contend for the win today.

Rounding out the top 10 was BarX Chaparral Suzuki rider Dilan Schwartz who continues to impress this season, notching two sixth place finishes as his best so far this season.
