Mistakes cost RJ Hampshire a shot at his second straight victory in round five of the Pro Motocross series at Southwick, after qualifying first on the day and finishing second in moto one.

Hampshire again had great pace throughout the day, ending the morning as the fastest qualifier and eventually leading at one point in both motos.

Unfortunately, the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider hit the ground multiple times in both motos, leading him to 2-6 moto scores on the day for fourth overall.

“I had good speed again today and I was fastest in qualifying, which was a first with the team,” Hampshire explained. “I felt awesome out there and my bike was really good, I just had a couple of mistakes that cost me.

“It’s not a bad points day but I’m looking forward to Millville and going up from here.”

Despite the recent run of mistakes, Hampshire now sits fourth overall in points and is on pace to match his career-best in the 250MX championship, as he finished fourth in both 2018 and 2019.

The series now heads to Millville to Spring Creek raceway on Saturday, where Hampshire will look to stay mistake-free and grab his second overall win of the season.
