The start of the Pro Motocross season has been a rollercoaster for Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider RJ Hampshire, one that continued at High Point as he suffered a mechanical leading the opening moto.

Hampshire has proven he has the speed to run at the sharp end of the 250 field this season, taking third in moto one at Fox Raceway and Thunder Valley. However, things didn’t go his way in moto two at both races.

When the gate dropped for round three at High Point, he looked poised to grab his first moto win of the season, catching and passing teammate Jalek Swoll and checking out, this time suffering a chain failure that cost him the win.

“Man, what a day,” Hampshire explained. “Moto 1 was honestly the best I’ve ever felt, just clicking them off, and it was cool to have Jalek [Swoll] up there with me going 1-2. Unfortunately, things happen and it’s tough but you kind of have to take it and try to build off it.”

Eventually going 38-8 for 15th overall, Hampshire was confident following the race that he had what it took to take the overall win and is confident going into RedBud in two weeks’ time.

“I felt like today should have been a 1-1 day,” he continued. “We were onto something but I know we’re in a good spot, just need to keep our head up and looking forward to RedBud.”
