250MX points-leader holds a 45-point advantage entering the break.
The current two-week break in Pro Motocross comes at an instrumental time for defending 250MX champion Haiden Deegan, who has posted a gritty performance over the past three rounds after crashing in qualifying at the RedBud National.
With his participation in round six hanging in the balance while recovering from a severe impact to his leg, the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rider would line up for the motos, posting a 14-2 scorecard for fifth overall.
Deegan then rebounded to P1 at Millville, before second overall at Washougal successfully consolidated his series lead, as two weeks off now provide an opportunity to completely recover. The 19-year-old has contested all Monster Energy Supercross and Pro Motocross rounds this year, mixing both solid consistency with extraordinary pace.
“That first week after RedBud, I didn’t do anything training-wise, just lots of therapy, ice baths, and the whole run,” reflected Deegan. “This last week, I was able to get on the bike during the week, do a couple of 20s, as well as some starts, so we had a little more prep and I was able to get the leg moving a bit.
“We’ll keep getting this leg back to 100 percent [over the break]. The last couple of weeks, I’ve been limited – I’ve just had to chill out and keep the leg healthy for the weekends. Now that it’s getting better, it’d be nice to get back to a routine, get healed up and right for when we go racing again.”
Riders now have two weekends off the Pro Motocross fixture, with the season picking up for the final three rounds commencing at Ironman Raceway on August 9. Deegan is yet to confirm whether he will ride the 450 class at the final round if he clinches early, or if he will remain in 250MX.
