Daytona SMX Next victory another step for Triumph prospect.

Triumph Factory Racing prospect Deacon Denno is a rising talent to keep an eye on, with his SMX Next victory at Daytona on Saturday night a convincing achievement alongside an impressive catalogue of results. The 17-year-old is on a fast track toward the professional division, with this Profiled feature taking a look at his trajectory so far.

It’s often the case that a result like Daytona is a defining moment, solidifying a rider’s place in the conversation of those teenage riders climbing through the ranks of amateur competition, and one worthy of paying close attention to.

Dennno also recorded double titles at the 2025 AMA Amateur National Championship last year in the 250B and Schoolboy 2 B/C categories at Loretta Lynn’s, earning him the coveted Amateur Rider of the Year award, while also posting the fastest lap time of anyone at the Ranch, reaffirming his status as a top-tier newcomer.

A switch from the well-established KTM Orange Brigade program to Triumph Racing America last September was a significant step for the young Texan, who has since taken his TF 250-X to 5-2-1 scores across the three SMX Next events contested in 2026 at Anaheim 2, Houston, and Daytona.

How has the transition to the new machine been? Denno notes that all of the development done prior to his arrival made for an already impressive platform, and that the bike is progressing at a rapid rate for the British manufacturer.

“The bike’s really good,” he explained after Daytona. “We’ve been working our butts off – the whole team, the past three years or so, they’ve been doing it, [while] I’m new to it. They worked really hard, and we’re progressing really fast.”

Standing tall at Daytona against some of the sport’s most sought-after talent was a special moment, as Denno powered to the holeshot before relinquishing the lead to Monster Energy Team Green Kawasaki’s Kade Johnson in the early stages.

That battle intensified at the front with Denno unrelenting in his pursuit, completing a pass before achieving victory by 4.426s as the checkered flag waved. The win marked a special moment, particularly given the history of the iconic Daytona event.

“It feels insane,” Denno continued. “Doing it in front of this big crowd is crazy – just looking up on the gate is insane. I’ve made a bunch of gains in one year, so to do that, it feels good. And to get the win, it feels insane.

“To watch just all these guys like [Eli] Tomac… he’s done it eight times, it’s a special place. It feels insane to do in front of the crowd, with how much history is behind this place, it feels really good.”

Denno signed a three-year contract with the manufacturer last year, with the announcement indicating that he will transition to the Triumph Factory Racing program for the 2027 SMX World Championship season, which is a major play for the brand.

Set to funnel from within the amateur pipeline into the pros, Denno represents someone who the team is aiming to build a future around that hasn’t yet been snapped up by the likes of Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing or the Team Green-led Monster Energy Kawasaki amateur program.

Denno is a strong signing that makes sense, with credentials that you like to see from a capable, emerging rider. Asked about his immediate future, he explained that the upcoming SMX Next races are the focus, with his mentality and program in a solid place so far in the season.

“I just focus ahead to my next event, [which is] Birmingham, and that’s the one that counts,” he said. “So I think that’s what I’m looking forward to. I’ve focused on myself a lot [and] focused on my program a lot. Mentally, I’m in a good spot right now – I’m stoked [with] where I’m at.”

Denno is indeed a rider to watch for the future, part of a new generation of racers emerging into the professional racing scene via the SMX Next program. Whether we see him transition into 250SX during Monster Energy Supercross or otherwise 250MX for select appearances during Pro Motocross, it’s only a matter of time at this point.
