Jett Lawrence was issued a license point and fined following the drama involving Haiden Deegan during qualifying at High Point, the penalty received after the 450MX champion was found to have ‘violated the code of conduct’.

Lawrence crashed in the Q2 and responded to a comment from Deegan on his way through by directing his middle finger at him – aka ‘an obscene hand gesture’ – resulting in the AMA’s sanction:

Race direction reviewed an incident involving rider #1 (Lawrence) and rider #38 (Deegan) in section 11. After review, it was determined that rider #1 (Lawrence) violated the code of conduct by using an obscene hand gesture during the competition. Rider #1 (Lawrence) was assessed one rider license point and a fine.

Tensions between Honda HRC Progressive’s Lawrence and premier class rookie Deegan (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing) escalated on Saturday morning at round four of Pro Motocross 2026, going back-and-forth after finding each other on track in Q1 and then boiling over into the second timed session.

While it was Hunter Lawrence (Honda HRC Progressive) who won the overall with a convincing 1-1 performance, Jett Lawrence finished second on the weekend to retain the red plate, and Deegan claimed his second 450 podium in four attempts with third overall.
