Liqui Moly Beta Racing’s Mitchell Oldenburg has outlined the extent of his injuries following an incident during 450SX qualifying at the San Diego round, with a concussion sustained in addition to a broken radius and ulna that required surgery.

Oldenburg brought out a red-flag during the middle stages of the second 450SX qualifying session at Snapdragon Stadium, the 31-year-old coming unstuck through the rhythm lane after the start straight.

Despite posting the 18th-fastest lap time in the afternoon, Oldenburg was withdrawn from the night program altogether and has since confirmed the extent of his injuries, which are set to sideline him indefinitely.

“[I’ve] been down and out the last couple [of] days,” revealed Oldenburg. “Most of you have probably seen the video during practice on Saturday, but I ended up with a concussion and a broken radius and ulna in my left arm.

“Ended up having surgery, and we are officially on the road to recovery. [I’m] not sure what the timeline looks like at the moment, but I’m just thankful for everyone in my corner being so positive. I’m sure I’m not the only one in the sport who has a love/hate relationship with dirtbikes – I think my wife said it best, ‘It can always be worse, but damn it could always be better.’

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has reached out. I’ve said this a lot the last couple of years – dirtbikes are a huge part of my life, but dirtbikes will not define who Mitchell Oldenburg is as a person.”

It marks a rough start to the Supercross championship for the Italian manufacturer, with 450SX teammate Benny Bloss also sustaining an arm injury following an incident on press day at the season-opener in Anaheim. No fill-in plan has been revealed by the team for either of the RX 450’s.
