A serious ankle and foot fracture could sideline Jett Lawrence for ‘at least three months’, Honda HRC Progressive has confirmed, ending his chances of regaining the Monster Energy Supercross Championship in 2026.

Lawrence, 22, was injured at his family-operated Dog Pound facility while training for the new season, undergoing surgery today in Florida to repair a fractured talus and navicular.

It will deny the reigning Pro Motocross 450MX and SuperMotocross 450SMX title-holder the opportunity to challenge for a second-career 450SX crown, which he previously won as a rookie in 2024. Lawrence was also ruled out early this past season after injuring his ACL in Glendale.

With an expected recovery period of three months at a minimum – per Honda HRC Progressive’s official injury update – it appears that Lawrence could potentially return in the closing stages of Supercross, and will certainly be 100 percent fit come May for the outdoors.

“Words can’t describe how I’m feeling right now,” Lawrence commented. “The team and I put in so much work during the off-season to improve. I keep reminding myself that we have overcome challenges before, and this is no different.

“I’ll put the same focus into my recovery that I put into being the best athlete I can be each day. My goal is to get this ankle fully healed up and return as competitive as ever and make the 2026 season as successful as we can.”

Brandon Wilson, manager of Racing and Advertising at American Honda, added: “This has been a brutal pre-season for us, with first Jo [Shimoda] and now Jett getting injured before we even head to Anaheim. It’s a shame because the atmosphere within the team leading into Supercross has been really strong, and the riders have been very happy with their bikes.

“We all know Jett would’ve been one of the favorites for the Supercross championship, but as professionals, we also recognize that this is part of racing. The most important thing for Jett is to take the time needed for a complete recovery.

“In the meantime, the team is 100-percent committed to putting its full support behind Hunter and Chance. Both riders showed last year that they have the speed to contend for wins and even titles, and I think they’re ready to take another step in 2026.”

With Jett Lawrence and 250SMX champion Shimoda both out, Honda HRC Progressive has revealed that it will place Chance Hymas in the 250SX Western division, himself set to return from injury at Anaheim 1 on January 10.
