Unpacking moments and narratives that shaped the weekend.
Round two of the 2026 Pro Motocross Championship is complete, with Hangtown delivering an action-packed day of racing across both the 450MX and 250MX categories. Our Captured feature revisits the defining moments and key points from the weekend in illustrated form.
This was how close both Lawrences were at various stages throughout the day, particularly around the midpoint of moto two. Then, almost instantly, the race changed. Jett dropped into the 1:55s – roughly two seconds quicker than brother Hunter – and within a couple of laps had stretched the advantage to three seconds. Hangtown marked a significant step forward in Jett’s return to form, and that’s a worrying prospect for the rest of the 450MX field.
Hangtown’s track preparations get an A rating this year. Especially during the opening motos – the dirt looked prime time!
That’s career podium number one for Red Bull KTM’s Julien Beaumer outdoors. Not bad after nine months on the sidelines, right?
He’s under a lot of scrutiny right now due to his pre-season comments/attitude, but the reality is, Haiden Deegan has been solid in his 450MX debut so far. P2 in qualifying, 3-3 across the motos, and in touch with the Lawrences [perhaps not Jett] at times. Not bad, and in a parallel world without the commentary, his results are viewed more positively.
If you’ve followed the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki story over the past decade, then you’ll understand just how rewarding the team’s current success must be for owner Mitch Payton. Red plates, podiums, and race wins have been hard-earned, making the current run of form all the more satisfying for the iconic operation.
This was the crash responsible for the red flag restart in 450MX moto two. Justin Cooper took a heavy hit after tangling with Mikkel Haarup, and announced the following update on social media: “I got a concussion, and the body is beat up, but thankful everything else checked out okay. I remember everything throughout the day yesterday, including the start of the moto. Going to take it day by day and return when I’m ready.”
Talking about crashes – we had an absolute yard-sale to commence 250MX moto two. Half the field must have been caught up in that one.
All does not appear to be well in the Chase Sexton/Monster Energy Kawasaki camp. Ominous reports arrived directly after an 11th-place result in race one, with many people left scratching their heads as to where the relationship goes from here – and what this means for his three-year contract.
The Women’s Motocross Championship (WMX) hosted its first round of 2026 at Hangtown, and as always, it was epic racing between Lachlan Turner and Charli Cannon. Turner fired the first shot, but something tells us this battle is only just beginning.
A second moto win wasn’t enough to get Cole Davies on the overall 250MX podium at round two, thanks to an 11th in race one. It was a convincing performance in the second encounter, though, and may kickstart his 250MX title charge.
It’s going to be a long summer for the competition if Jett Lawrence can consistently start like this.
