A broken shoulder sustained in a practice crash will rule Dean Wilson out for the remainder of the 2026 Monster Energy SMX World Championship post-season, with further evaluation required to determine a return to racing – potentially impacting his AUSX and WSX schedule.

According to Wilson, a derailed chain caused the Quad Lock Honda rider to crash heavily during the final moments of a routine training session, with a shoulder injury proving to be one of the more fortunate outcomes given the nature of his crash.

The injury casts doubt on the 34-year-old’s upcoming Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross SX1 title defense, which will commence in Townsville on October 3, in addition to an ongoing commitment to continue in World Supercross after finishing second at the opening round in Canada.

“Scary day yesterday,” Wilson confirmed. “Everything was going great at the track as I had a lap and a half left and I was done. Unfortunately, my chain derailed after I tripled on a tabletop and [I was] sent over the bars violently.

“[I have a] broken shoulder, and I have to say, I’m lucky that’s all I did. Big shout to my boy Derek Drake for driving me to hospital – I see a specialist Friday for a timeframe. Gutted, as I felt like I was in a good spot sitting second in WSX and was looking forward to AUSX Supercross.

“But we will see how it goes. Just want to thank everyone for checking in on me – you’re all absolute legends. Sorry for the shit news, but sometimes shit happens when you don’t expect it.”

It was a tough outing at SMX Playoff 1 for Wilson in the weather-affected conditions of Columbus, failing to qualify through the 450 ‘wildcard’ race for the afternoon’s two-point scoring motos. He was seeded 32nd coming into the playoffs after contesting just five rounds of 450SX earlier this year.
