A broad spread of penalties were applied following round 11 of the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross Championship on Saturday night, with race direction moving to address multiple incidents that took place in Detroit.

ISRT Kawasaki’s Vince Friese received an aggressive riding penalty – his second of the season – following contact with Shane McElrath (Quad Lock Honda) in the 450SX main event.

As a result, Friese was docked 10 championship points, three licence points, and fined for his actions. In addition, he was penalized for jumping on a red light in qualifying, resulting in the loss of his fastest lap, while a track cut in his heat race incurred no penalty.

In addition, the 450SX main event saw Colt Nichols (Twisted Tea Suzuki), Garrett Marchbanks (Monster Energy Kawasaki) and Kevin Moranz (KMR KTM) receive penalties for red cross light violations, resulting in the loss of five championship points and two purse positions each.

Honda-mounted privateers Jeremy Hand and Izah Clark were penalized for a red cross violation in 250SX heat one, resulting in a loss of two positions – bumping Hand out of his initial P8 transfer position to 10th and forced to later qualifying through the LCQ.

Hunter Lawrence (Honda HRC Progressive) was also penalized for stopping on track in the second 450SX qualifying session, resulting in the loss of his fastest lap of 51.505s. It proved insignificant, however, as his backup time of 51.546s still secured him P1 overall.

One incident that did not result in a penalty was Cooper Webb’s (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing) move on Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado in the premier class main event, which saw both riders crash.

Additionally, Devin Simonson’s (ClubMX Yamaha) wild ride in the 250SX main event – where he unintentionally went off track and then crossed multiple lanes in remarkable fashion before making a swift recovery – received no penalty.
