Further scans still to determine extent of the damage.
Daytona Supercross fast-qualifier and heat race winner Drew Adams sustained a broken thumb in a late-race incident through the whoop section on Saturday night, with the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider set to undergo further scans to determine the full extent of his injury.
The 17-year-old topped the 250SX East qualifying timesheets at the iconic speedway venue, setting a lap that was 0.718s clear of points-leader Pierce Brown (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing).
Adams followed that with a convincing heat race victory, before running inside the top-three during the opening stages of the main event. Settling into P4, a crash through the whoops with four minutes remaining brought an untimely end to his race.
Kawasaki has indicated that further scans in the coming week will determine his recovery timeline: ‘While charging through the demanding whoop section, Adams crashed and suffered a broken thumb, forcing him to pull off the track and end his night early. Despite the setback, his speed throughout the day underscored his front-running potential. More updates on Adams’ status are forthcoming.’
“It’s definitely not how I wanted the night to end,” he said. “Getting the fastest qualifier and the heat race win was huge for me – that felt really good, and honestly, I was feeling great on the bike all day. The speed was there, I’m super-bummed about the crash in the main. I’ll get my thumb checked out and see what’s next.”
Teammate Seth Hammaker claimed victory at the eighth round of the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross Championship – the second event of the 250SX East divisional series – with Indianapolis set to host the season’s second Triple Crown this weekend.
