An opening-moto crash at the Budds Creek National resulted in a re-injured collarbone for 5.11 Triumph Factory Racing’s Deacon Denno, likely bringing his season to an early end.

The 250MX rookie initially sustained a broken collarbone at the sixth round of the Pro Motocross Championship at Southwick in July, before returning to competition five weeks later at Unadilla.

Amid wet and treacherous conditions at Budds Creek, the 18-year-old hit a mud pile in the opening moto, triggering a crash and subsequent collarbone injury that could bring his 2026 Monster Energy SMX World Championship season to an early end, the team revealed.

“With Deacon, unfortunately, the conditions in moto one were extremely difficult,” said general manager of Triumph Racing America, Jeremy Coker. “Another rider crossed over in front of him, which forced him into a mud pile and resulted in him re-injuring his collarbone.

“It’s incredibly unfortunate because it was completely out of his control, and more importantly, I felt like we were starting to see Deacon riding like himself again today. Our focus now is getting him healthy, giving him the time he needs, and then starting with a blank canvas heading into next year so we can get him back where we know he belongs.”

Making his professional debut at Fox Raceway, Denno recorded season-best results of 12th overall on three occasions at Hangtown, Thunder Valley and RedBud. Ranked 36th in the SMX standings, he will now miss out on qualifying for the three-round post-season.
