Former AUSX title winner holds 42-point advantage entering finale.
SX1 champion-elect Dean Wilson labelled Melbourne ‘a good points night’ at AUSX Open 2025, a second-place result extending his championship advantage to 42 points entering this weekend’s Adelaide Grand Final.
Despite the presence of Jett and Hunter Lawrence, 33-year-old Wilson remained competitive at the high-profile international at Marvel Stadium, qualifying third in Superpole and delivering a 2-3 scorecard in the finals.
The 2023 AUSX premier class champion finished second overall at round four of the season behind Jett Lawrence, further building upon his points lead over Honda Racing teammate Cedric Soubeyras, who recorded 6-6 results for seventh on the night.
“I had a good points night tonight,” Wilson reflected. “Heading into Adelaide, I think now I will just keep the same mindset – it seems to be working so far, and I just take it race by race. If I ever get too far ahead of myself my brain likes to go crazy.
“We’ll take it one race at a time, but I’m also here to get the bonus money, so I’m not going to back down – I definitely still want to win, but you never know what can happen. I just do my best in each race and see what the outcome is.”
Wilson opened his 2025 campaign with a dominant double victory at Redcliffe’s opener, before repeating in Cronulla. He was again the top-finishing AUSX regular in the penultimate round on the weekend, with 50 points on the line in South Australia and needing to score just eight points or more to seal the title.
