Extent of injuries determined following scans on Monday.
A fractured right wrist has brought an early end to previous SX2 red plate-holder Lux Turner’s AUSX Supercross season, the Monster Energy Yamalube Yamaha injured in practice at Melbourne’s AUSX Open but not requiring surgery.
The 20-year-old arrived in Melbourne with momentum on his side after winning the opening three rounds, but a scary incident at Marvel Stadium exiting the whoops saw him sent over the following turn’s catch-fencing.
Turner was subsequently ruled out of the penultimate entirely, with further scans on Monday evening confirming a fractured right wrist, in addition to a sprained left wrist, and bruising of his elbow.
“It sucks,” Turner told MotoOnline. “Honestly, though, taking the positives, I’ve really gained a lot having been over here racing in Australia, and the whole experience has been great.
“With the crash, I was going through the whoops and I hit the last one a little low in the pocket with my rear wheel, which sent me forward and I couldn’t get to my rear brake. I coasted off the berm, but because the net was so low, I clipped the top of it, which threw me to the ground.
“I’m a bit aggravated that the nets aren’t a little taller, but hopefully they will use me getting hurt to fix them for the future.”
Turner arrived in Melbourne with a 26-point advantage in the Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross SX2 standings, having established himself as the rider to beat across the opening rounds. Despite this setback, he believes this season has marked a significant step forward in his career.
“Obviously, I was in a good position to win [the championship], so that sucks – it’s heartbreaking,” he continued. “But in the same breath, you’ve got to take the positives from everything. I’ve spoken to my team in the US, who have been nothing but supportive.
“We won’t rush this. Even if I miss the first couple rounds of AMA Supercross, I’ll come back swinging, but I want redemption [in AUSX]. Next year we’ll come back and go undefeated, which I was supposed to this year, but you know, sometimes shit happens.”
Turner recently inked a deal with the Toyota Redlands BarX Yamaha team for the 2026 Monster Energy SMX World Championship, now facing a race against time in order to be fit for the Supercross component at the beginning of next year.
