450SMX incident leaves him sidelined for Ironman’s 2025 edition.
Team USA’s Chase Sexton has withdrawn from next week’s Monster Energy Motocross of Nations (MXoN) at Ironman Raceway from October 3-5, following injuries sustained at the SMX Final.
Running fourth, a violent, late-race incident in the closing stages of the second 450SMX encounter saw Sexton removed from the circuit assisted by the Alpinestars Mobile Medical Unit, with the 26-year-old later confirming a mild concussion and shoulder weakness.
He is scheduled to undergo further scans on the shoulder to evaluate the injury, although he has ultimately decided that he will withdraw from the Nations event – a race that he won in 2022 at RedBud.
Sexton was confirmed to Team USA in the MXGP division alongside Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing pair Eli Tomac (Open) and Haiden Deegan (MX2), however, the latter’s involvement is now also in question after breaking his collarbone at the SMX finale in Las Vegas.
The developments see Team USA fragmented, as Tomac is the only remaining member confirmed to contest the iconic teams event for the home nation. It opens the door for two possible last-minute fill-ins if Deegan does join Sexton on the sidelines.
