Post-race in Vegas following SMX Finals.
Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac put together a strong post-season campaign, landing on the podium with P3 results at both Charlotte and St. Louis, before repeating the performance at the Las Vegas finale to secure third overall in the 450SMX Championship. In this Fast Thoughts feature, Tomac reflects on the SMX Final and shares his thoughts on the upcoming MXoN.
The race one mindset when Jett Lawrence was coming on strong…
Really, I’m just wondering what he’s doing different tonight. When he passed me, I saw some seriously different lines – especially like that one in the sand section – you can gain significant amount of time. I just missed it, and of course, he was doing that better.
Added intensity of the Playoffs…
Yeah, it’s hard to say. I mean, it was kind of like that same thing over again, racing both of these brothers.
Next steps leading into MXoN…
Right now, I have no idea what happens. I mean, I’m more concerned about my team that got blown apart tonight. So who knows what happens? I don’t know, I’ll take a couple days off and then put the motocross suspension back on and go from there. But yeah, tonight was terrible for Team USA. So, I don’t know what happens.
Replacements for Chase Sexton and Haiden Deegan…
Really, it’s whoever’s motivated to do it and wants to do it and go from there. They need to be knocking on the door and wanting to do it. Whoever it is, I guess we’ll see who comes knocking.
