Triumph Factory Racing’s Jordon Smith salvaged a head-turning P6 result at the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) Final, despite sustaining a dislocated shoulder in a high-speed incident during 250SMX qualifying.

The 29-year-old went on a wild ride through the roller section toward the rear of the Las Vegas hybrid circuit, with a high-side sending him airborne as he dislocated his shoulder upon impact.

In managing the injury throughout the remainder of the finale, Smith raced to a shock 10-7 moto scorecard to capture sixth overall for the weekend, and was credited seventh in the final 250SMX standings.

“Well, not the way I envisioned the last round going,” commented Smith. “I had a crazy get-off in first qualifying practice and dislocated my shoulder – thanks to the medical crew for putting it back in quickly, and thanks to Steve Navarro for keeping me going throughout the day.

“Last race of the season, and I had to give it all I had. Stoked to be able to put two solid rides together and finish sixth overall. There’s never been a lack of effort from me and that’s something I’m proud of myself for. I’ll recoup and enjoy a couple of weeks off.

“Thanks to the whole Triumph Factory Racing team and every single team member for all the hard work they put in this year. [It’s] something to be proud of with all the accomplishments we had this year.”

In his first full season as part of the official Triumph operation, Smith finished eighth in the 250SX West class standings after claiming the British brand’s first Supercross win in Glendale, before claiming ninth position in the 250MX championship.
