Triple 450SX champion Cooper Webb said that he is still chasing his ‘race legs’ upon returning to competition following a knee injury sustained in Pro Motocross, with a P5 result at SMX Playoff 2 in St. Louis a step forward entering this weekend’s finale.

Webb, 29, returned to action at the first SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) Playoff round in Charlotte, where he posted a steady seventh-place finish after the single 450SMX moto contested.

Inside The Dome at America’s Center on Saturday, the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rider displayed a marked improvement, with a fourth-place finish in the second moto highlighting a progressive return to form.

“It was a better night in St. Louis, especially in that second race,” commented Webb after the race. “I pumped up super-bad in that first one and was hanging on for dear life, so being able to rebound and ride well in that second one was nice.

“It’s always tough coming back from injury – I am doing the best that I can – and getting back in the mix. It was good to be closer to the front, but we’ll keep looking for improvements leading into Las Vegas, get my race legs back under me, and aim to be closer to the front each time.”

In the 450SMX standings, just seven points separate positions four through eight, with Webb currently listed in fifth with triple points set to shake up the order one final time this weekend in Las Vegas.
