Incident during second 250MX qualifying session leaves him sidelined.
A dislocated right shoulder sustained in an incident during the second 250MX qualifier at Southwick left Casey Cochran sidelined for the fifth round, as the Rockstar Energy GASGAS Factory Racing rider will undergo further evaluation this week.
Despite the fall, Cochran would qualify ninth overall in Massachusetts, reinforcing his return to form of late after recovering from a broken leg in November. The Alpinestars Mobile Medical Unit attended to the 19-year-old at the event, who put his shoulder back in place.
It’s a tough blow for Cochran, who is up for contract renewal at the end of the 2025 season. He has featured inside the top 10 throughout the opening four rounds of Pro Motocross, with a season-high seventh-place overall finish at Thunder Valley.
“It was very unfortunate that Casey crashed during qualifying, resulting in a dislocated shoulder,” commented Rockstar Energy GASGAS Factory Racing team manager
Sean Murphy. “He’s shown great potential so far this motocross season, and it’s tough to see him have to sit out at Southwick.
“We’re grateful to the Alpinestars medical crew for doing their best to get his shoulder back in safely. Casey will undergo an MRI next week, and we’re hoping to have a clearer picture of the injury by the middle of the week.”
Cochran was running an impressive eighth overall in the 250MX standings before Southwick, with the Virginia native now situated in 11th as six rounds remain in the Pro Motocross calendar.
Additionally, Cochran holds P24 in the overall SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) 250 placement, with the top 20 riders qualifying for the three-round Playoff series, which commences in Concord, North Carolina, on September 6.
